Fabulous Fridays: Mothers

Thought: Today I want to dedicate this post to my mom as well as all
the other wonderful mothers of this world (the ones with us
and the ones watching over us).  This weekend it's their day.
I can't believe they only have one a year... there
should be more Mother holidays, don't you think?
My brothers and I are going to give her a card and
some other little things (she reads this, so shhh).
But today I want to dedicate two songs to her and
show you a few wonderful quotes I found.
Mothers are special, everyone. Tell her how much you love her,
kiss her, hug her, go with her somewhere special. Sometimes
we take time for granted, and then later regret not spending
enough time with her. So do it! and not just for her special day, but
everytime you can.

Two songs I dedicate to my mom:

[...Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me...]

[...You are so beautiful to me
Such joy and happiness you bring
Such joy and happiness you bring
Like a dream
A guiding light that shines in the night
Heavens gift to me
You are so beautiful to me...]

Quotes: M is for the million things she gives me
O means only that she's soft to hold
T for the things she tries to teach me
H is for her heart of purest gold
E for her eyes with love light shining
R means right and right she'll always be

Put them all together they spell Mother,
A word that means the world to me
- Author Unknown

Mothers hold their children's hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.  ~Author Unknown

Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.  ~Marion C. Garretty, quoted in A Little Spoonful of Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul

God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.  ~Jewish Proverb

My mom is a neverending song in my heart of comfort, happiness, and being.  I may sometimes forget the words but I always remember the tune.  ~Graycie Harmon

For those of you who may not have your mama here anymore,
remember that she will always be in your heart, and from wherever
she is, I'm sure she continues to love you and care for you in a
way the only mothers can.  The love they give is so strong, that no
physical change could ever take it away. God bless them <3

Fabulous Friday: Not for Jason

This week I actually want to dedicate a 'fabulous Friday' type of post to Love.
But I want to do it cute and all. So I will try my best to have it by tomorrow.
Right now I have to meet my cousin,
whom I haven't seen in a while! Prima I'll be there shortly!
My days have been filled with smiles
and I want to tell you why soon... just simple things.
That's how it should be though... be happy by noticing the simple
beautiful things around.

Anyway, you're probably wondering about the title. Well, here it goes. I am not sure who created it, but I came across it and I think it's 'cute.'

I actually found it in December or November. I told my friend "I
have to find a Friday 12th on the calendar next year!!" he said "oh you probably
won't remember to  put the picture on..."
So, to Dustin, who's in France having a great time, I remembered!! :P

Have a wonderful Friday dears!

Fabulous Fridays: Being a Woman (and loving it!)

Quote(s):
A man gives many question marks, however, a woman is a whole mystery.  ~Diana Stürm

Curve:  The loveliest distance between two points.  ~Mae West

A highbrow is a man who has found something more interesting than women.  ~Edgar Wallace

After about 20 years of marriage, I'm finally starting to scratch the surface of that one.  And I think the answer lies somewhere between conversation and chocolate.  ~Mel Gibson, about what women want

some that made me chuckle:

Every woman is wrong until she cries, and then she is right - instantly.  ~Sam Slick

They call it PMS because Mad Cow Disease was already taken.  ~Author Unknown

The rarest thing in the world is a woman who is pleased with photographs of herself.  ~Elizabeth Metcalf

Nature has given women so much power that the law has very wisely given them little.  ~Samuel Johnson

Men enjoy being thought of as hunters, but are generally too lazy to hunt.  Women, on the other hand, love to hunt, but would rather nobody knew it.  ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic's Notebook, 1966

Women really do rule the world.  They just haven't figured it out yet.  When they do, and they will, we're all in big big trouble.  ~"Doctor Leon"

Songs which depict strong women:
The best thing about being a woman
Is the prerogative to have a little fun
Oh, oh, oh, go totally crazy-forget I'm a lady
Men's shirts-short skirts
Oh, oh, oh, really go wild-yeah, doin' it in style
Oh, oh, oh, get in the action-feel the attraction
Color my hair-do what I dare
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free-yeah, to feel the way I feel
Man! I feel like a woman!

Got brass in pocket
Got bottle I'm gonna use it
Intention I feel inventive
Gonna make you, make you, make you notice

Got motion restrained emotion
Been driving detroit leaning
No reason just seems so pleasing
Gonna make you, make you, make you notice

[Chorus:]
Gonna use my arms
Gonna use my legs
Gonna use my style
Gonna use my sidestep
Gonna use my fingers
Gonna use my, my, my imagination

Thought: No particular reason for the topic today! Maybe it's
the fact that winter clothing sometimes makes one feel pretty? :)
(even if my skin is pale and my freckles show more).
Anyway, isn't being a woman amazing? I love how we can dream,
be goofy, be sexy, fall in love with love, like cheesy movies but also
action ones, have so many hairstyle, shoes, and clothing options (it can be
dangerous too I know),  be treated delicately by gentleman, wear many
many colors, and even be a complete enigma to some.
Today, smile because you're one, walk with confidence,
irradiate happiness, and just enjoy being a lady!
Self-esteem can be very sexy <3

Have a cozy weekend (it's cold! - at least here)

Fabulous Fridays: Brothers

Quote(s): There's no other love like the love for a brother.  There's no other love like the love from a brother.  ~Astrid Alauda

A brother is a friend given by Nature.  ~Jean Baptiste Legouve

It was nice growing up with someone like you - someone to lean on, someone to count on... someone to tell on!  ~Author Unknown

A sibling may be the keeper of one's identity, the only person with the keys to one's unfettered, more fundamental self.  ~Marian Sandmaie

Help your brother's boat across, and your own will reach the shore.  ~Hindu Proverb
(my dad would love this one, he always tells us to help one another and make sacrifices if it's necessary)

C.M.D
things that can apply to me:

The mildest, drowsiest sister has been known to turn tiger if her sibling is in trouble.  ~Clara Ortega
After a girl is grown, her little brothers - now her protectors - seem like big brothers.  ~Astrid Alauda (don't they look older? they used to NOT! they're younger)

Song: He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother by Gotthard
{The road is long
with many a winding turn
That lead us to who knows where,
who knows where
But I'm strong, strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go; his welfare is my concern
No burden is he to bear; we'll get there
For I know he would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother}

my handsome brothers (not as mature as they look- joking. actually I'm not)

Thought: This past week was my brother David's birthday. This Friday I want to dedicate the post to him and to my other brother Cesar. We've always had a good sibling relationship and I hope that remains like that forever. We have so many memories together and many to look forward to. They are still annoying boys, one still has to be looking out for them and their decissions in life, but I love them very much. I miss when they were little dwarfs next to me. Now they are giants.

I hope you have an amazing weekend! :)

Fabulous Fridays: Wonder + Wonderful Week

Thought: Hi guys! I hope you all had a good week. Mine was wonderful, with three highlights included :)
1) My friend finally gave me the Canon 30D to take home with me on Monday. I'm looking forward to the hundreds of pictures I will take. 2) Do any of  you remember when I wrote about my favorite Queen songs saying that I had a chance of winning something? Well I did! A CD and a DVD. I was close to winning the vinyl albums and the shirt, but that was the grand prize; I'm still happy I won something :) 3) I opened an Etsy shop where I will be putting many pictures and eventually art. I will improve more and more, it's a promise.
And now to the main point: this week's Fabulous Friday is special; it's about the word ' wonder.' For some reason I like it a lot; It such a special word that refers to the power of our minds, to astonishing things... it works as an adjective, it sounds good in songs. I also use it as an excuse to put one of my all-time favorite songs: Lemon Tree. The song reminds me of my teen years, but I also think it goes well in situations in which the outcome of something is not as grand as you expected (or if a guy promised you sunshine and he gave you hmmm rain). The other song I included today is just another one of my oldies favorites. I know... I put quite a lot of oldies sometimes :)

{... I wonder how wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning turning turning turning turning around
And all that I can see is just another lemon-tree...}

Runaway by Del Shannon
{...I'm a-walkin' in the rain,
Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain,
Wishin' you were here by me,
To end this misery
And I wonder--
I wah-wah-wah-wah-wonder, Why,
Why, why, why, why, why she ran away,
Yes, and I wonder,
A-where she will stay-ay,
My little runaway...}

Quote(s): “From wonder into wonder existence opens.” - Lao Tzu Tao

“Wonder rather than doubt is the root of knowledge” - Abraham Joshua Heschel

“Philosophy begins in wonder. And, at the end, when philosophic  thought
has done its best, the wonder remains.” -  Alfred North Whitehead quotes

“Wonder is music heard in the heart, is voiceless” -Rosemary Dobson quotes

Enjoy your weekend!!

Fabulous Fridays: Brown Eyes

Quote(s): Lines from a poem by Zaara Haroon:
Brown eyes…as they were…
Complimented and described as the honey which smiles
[...]She saw how pretty her eyes were…how lightly
they had been touched with the brown brush of her creator,
How sharply they were shaped with a light coffee velvet inside them,
Like a dry leaf dancing its last dance of autumn,
To perch like a butterfly in bliss…

So brown eyes I hold you near
Cause you're the only song I want to hear
A melody softly soaring through my atmosphere
(phrase from the song Soul Meets Body)

Song: What better example than Brown Eyed Girl- Van Morrison
[...]Standing in the sunlight laughing,
Hiding behind a rainbow's wall,
Slipping and sliding

All along the water fall, with you
My brown eyed girl,
You my brown eyed girl.

Thought: This is a post dedicated to all you beautiful
brown eyed girls and boys. Blue & green eyed people, you are special
too! But since we, the brown ones, are a little more common,
we don't get praised for them as much. But we have indeed inspired poems and
songs; just wanted to remind those who wish they had a different eye color
that the important thing is not if your eyes are blue, green, hazel, or brown. The
important thing is their ability to let people look into your soul through them
and just how much kindness they irradiate.  Have a super fun weekend!

Here's a flower for you. Iris Spuria. And it's brown :)

Fabulous Fridays: Halloween!

Hello lovely people! I feel cheerful today; maybe it's the Halloween spirit, maybe it's simply because it's Friday. But anyway, since tomorrow is Halloween, today's post will be dedicated to that. Let me give you some quotes, songs, images, and a thought ---> as my way of wishing you a very happy weekend. Oh, and I know it seems I put more quotes each time... I am too indecisive; there are many I like!

Quotes ^^ Witch and ghost make merry on this last of dear October’s days.  ~Unknown

^^ Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen,
Voices whisper in the trees, "Tonight is Halloween!"
~Dexter Kozen

^^ Once in a young lifetime one should be allowed to have as much sweetness as one can possibly want and hold.  ~Judith Olney

^^ Halloween wraps fear in innocence,
As though it were a slightly sour sweet.
Let terror, then, be turned into a treat...
~Nicholas Gordon

^^ On Halloween, witches come true;
Wild ghosts escape from dreams.
Each monster dances in the park....
~Nicholas Gordon

^^ Nothing on Earth so beautiful as the final haul on Halloween night.  ~Steve Almond

^^ 'Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.
~William Shakespeare

^^ Nothing beats a haunted moonlit night on All Hallows Eve.... And on this fatal night, at this witching time, the starless sky laments black and unmoving.  The somber hues of an ominous, dark forest are suddenly illuminated under the emerging face of the full moon.  ~Kim Elizabeth

^^ This Halloween, the most popular mask is the Arnold Schwarzenegger mask.  And the best part?  With a mouth full of candy you will sound just like him.  ~Conan O'Brien

Here are two favorite Halloween songs of mine. The first one just makes me want to dance like a zombie; the second one is from an awesome little movie!

{...They did the mash
It caught on in a flash
They did the mash
They did the monster mash
Zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son...}

{...In this town we call home
Everyone hail to the pumpkin song [...]
I am the clown with the tear-away face
Here in a flash and gone without a trace
I am the "who" when you call, "Who's there?"
I am the wind blowing through your hair]...}

Thought: The first time I remember enjoying Halloween a lot, was after spending one here in the US as a kid--my other Halloweens were in Peru until I came to Texas in 2004-- and ending up with an amount of candy I never had before.  It definitely has a lot of spirit here.  I don't necessarily agree with all the crazy spending some people do, but I do like how much effort is put into making it a fun night. It's also nice to see how excited children get. As for us adults... dressing up is so much fun! This year, despite wanting to be Sailor Moon, I will dress up as Princess Leia as a favor to a friend :D  What will you be? Well I hope all of you vampires, witches, superheroes, movie characters, monsters, and ghosts have an amazing weekend! (This goes to everyone of course... even those who won't dress up). I leave you with a picture I found that looks kind of Sleepy Hollow-ish!

Fabulous Fridays: Coffee

This post is dedicated to that amazing black beverage that I never get tired of drinking and that I will be enjoying a lot this Fall & Winter: Coffee

Quote(s): There are many today! I threw some silly ones in there as well :)

"Suave molecules of Mocha stir up your blood, without causing excess heat; the organ of thought receives from it a feeling of sympathy; work becomes easier and you will sit down without distress to your principal repast which will restore your body and afford you a calm, delicious night."  ~Prince Talleyrand

Black as the devil, Hot as hell,
Pure as an angel, Sweet as love. ~Charles Maurice de Talleyrand

"Over second and third cups flow matters of high finance, high state, common gossip and low comedy.  [Coffee] is a social binder, a warmer of tongues, a soberer of minds, a stimulant of wit, a foiler of sleep if you want it so.  From roadside mugs to the classic demi-tasse, it is the perfect democrat."  ~Author Unknown

"He was my cream, and I was his coffee -
And when you poured us together, it was something." ~Josephine Baker

Silly ones:
Deja Brew:  The feeling that you've had this coffee before.  ~Author Unknown
Be a coffee-drinking individual - espresso yourself!  ~Author Unknown
Do I like my coffee black?  There are other colors?  ~Author Unknown
Everybody should believe in something.  I believe I'll have another coffee.  ~Author Unknown
C:\COFFEE.POT missing (A)bort (R)etry (F)all asleep?  ~Author Unknown
if(pot.coffee=EMPTY) {programmer->;brain=OFF};  ~Author Unknown

Song: Jars Of Clay - Coffee Song

[Call it obsession, call it fanatical
I am not trying to make this a spectical
But I have this craving that justifies behaving
I really need some of that...
Chorus:
Oooh, good coffee, strong coffee
I need to have some...]

Thought: Well, it's obvious I like coffee. But, unlike many people, I don't love it because of the caffeine and its effects... I like coffee because just its smell can remind me of things I enjoy... a unique flavor, warmth, coziness, an afternoon with my mom, an hour with a friend, hazelnut & pumpkin, etc. Every morning I look forward to my coffee and toasts :) I don't care how strong it is, in fact I like it regular.  I love it when they serve it in real cups, but I don't mind a nice latte with whip cream and foam inside a cardboard one.  Oh and I also like how it naturally makes me put my fingers together and close my eyes as I take my first sip.

I hope you have a very fun weekend!
xoxo
