A Fun Idea...

As I was paying some bills at my office; I remembered something I had read in a forum and kept in mind ever since (a pre-paid envelope idea). A lot of companies/organizations send you offers on the mail inviting you to subscribe to something, whether it is a credit card, a magazine, a service, etc. But a lot of them seem desperate, don't they? As soon as your previous subscription approaches its end, they remind you. If you don't answer, they remind you again. If you donate to something, they will assume you will do it monthly, etc. If it's a good cause, however, I always understand.

So in order for them to get the message [not guaranteed- you know how they are after all], try doing something fun with the pre-paid envelope they sent you :) You will send it back with something totally random inside! You can search random images in magazines, online, in other ads, etc. If it's a credit card offer, you can send them another credit card offer, or something you find anywhere. You can even try to put a plastic knife, or spoon, or something. I seem kind of childish, I know... I am actually not; and in fact, I haven't done this quite yet. I've only sent them back a post-it note saying things like: "that person doesn't work here anymore;" "we don't want that, thanks." But every time I see one of those envelopes, I remember that idea. So I might go ahead and do that. It's fun to imagine their faces, and maybe you even make someone's day!

Have an awesome start of the week!

To Our Dear Pets

I am an animal lover. Sometimes I think I should have been a veterinarian, but my fear of gooey sights and perhaps my intimidation of chemistry scared me. I do like my major (Urban Studies), but I might always wonder what Veterinary School would have been for me. To ease that nostalgia I like interacting with animals whenever I can; I volunteer at the Humane Society of my county and I give my pets (currently two cockatiels since I can't have a dog yet) as much love as I can.
Do you have a pet? How do you feel about him/her? Don't you think your days are brighter because of them? Many times we take our pets' love for granted, or think of them only as "accessories" to our lives. In the case of birds, many people have them as an addition to their living space, but they keep them in their cages at all times. We may be good owners, yet sometimes we forget to appreciate our pet's signs of affection. Like when we come home from work, and all we want to do is lay/sit and relax; suddenly a bark, a waving tail, a chirp, a meow show us how excited our pets get because we are home. And do we give them the love they deserve? I hope so. Animals love us for what we really are, they give us their complete trust, they don't judge our actions, they don't get tired of showing us their devotion. So it breaks my heart when people out there don't realize this; they punish an animal for doing something he/she wasn't taught not to do. They steal their freedom only to make them live in a cage when they were born to fly, run, interact, be crazy. They abuse them; they ignore them. (sorry--I'm getting a bit negative and this blog is positive!)

If you want a pet, please give them all the love you can, buy them toys, give them a warm place to rest, make them interact with you and other people. If you think you can't dedicate too much time to them, wait a little more to get one. Research the pet you're getting to see if it meets your expectations. Their lives are usually much shorter than ours, and I think they deserve to live it with someone that will treat them as one more member in the family.

For those of you who have pets, today when you see them, show them you love them, give them a kiss, a belly rub, talk to them. Realize how special their love for us is and give them something in return. Have a lovely day,

xoxo~ Marcela

Cute Lyrics, Cute Video!

Here is an artist that I recently discovered: Richard Hawley. He has this lovely song called Serious that talks about being in love and how silly we can act when we feel that way! You need to watch the cute video of it!

When you are in love
Ah, you feel the stars above
There’s no devil in your eyes
There’s no darkness in disguise

But when you are in love
A kiss can turn your heart to stone
Hearts breaking in the night
There's a devil in her eyes

Oh it’s serious, so serious
A kiss that caught the wind made you delirious
Oh it’s serious, so serious
Take her in your arms don’t be afraid
Never be afraid

When you are in love
Ah, the stars burn bright above
There’s a kindness in your eyes
There’s no darkness in disguise

Oh but when you are in love
Oh your heart it turns to stone
Hearts breaking in the night
There's a devil in her eyes

Have a lovely afternoon!

Animated Movies

One is never too old to see animated films! I saw Ponyo this past weekend, and it was what I thought it would be: cuteness, laughter, bright colors in every scene, good animation, and more.
There is something about the colors in the movie that made it very enjoyable to me; the characters had a traditional solid-appearance, but the backgrounds were like color pencil/pastel paintings. I consider that one of the most special features of the film.
I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching animated movies; I saw Up recently and it made me cry 10 minutes into the movie! The next one I plan to watch will probably be The Princess and The Frog. It was about time Disney released a movie like that again! Too much 3d lately :P

I love my desktop background!

I found this rainbow desktop online for my office computer. I think it's cute! It has these little fairies all over. What I did was unlock the grid and placed my most-used icons in the hands of each fairy. Sometimes having a cute/funny/lovely desktop background helps you smile when you sit at your desk.
Have a magnificent weekend!

2 Pictures Game- Started by Oh,Mishka

I thought Michelle's post was lovely. I decided to participate in her game and put two pictures of things in my room. The first one is a frame I made a long time ago with a picture of me and my cousin in it. It has letters all over with a metallic tone to them; if you want to know how to make it, I can post the instructions :) The second item is very special to me. It's a hanging pamphlet that my dad gave me when I was a little girl. You can tell by the color that it's a little old, but it always reminds me of the values my dad wanted me to preserve. Here is the translation:

Little Woman

Be kind, but not easy
Be worthy, but not arrogant
Laugh, but not scandalously
Look, but with modesty
Be tender, but not flexible
Be joyful, but not frivolous
Talk, but with restraint
Be sweet, but not too sweet
Love, but with caution
Listen, but don't always believe
Be a woman, and not a doll

Let It Rain!

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. ~John Ruskin

A lot of people enjoy the rain, but there are few others that don't. It makes them feel sad and melancholic. Well it's time to change that! Rain is amazing, not only because it's good for our environment, but because one can feel inspired to do things that we forget to do on other days.
-It's a perfect excuse not to worry about make-up, hair, good clothes, etc. You can put on some pjs and just relax!
- Take advantage of the darkness, close your curtains, and sit/lay, close your eyes, breath slowly. Try releasing any tensions you had that day. I love taking naps too!
- Lay down and listen to the rain outside; the thunder, the alarms that sometimes go off, the way the winds affects the sound of the rain.
- Sit in an area where you can see the rain clearly and just grab a cup of tea, coffee, milk, etc.
- Cuddle! Cuddle with your love, your pet, your pillow, your blanket. Feel cozy and listen to the rain fall on the roof :) (try to enjoy nature without distractions on the computer/tv, at least for a bit).
- Read a good romance novel or science fiction book!
- Do things that you put aside during sunny days. Maybe a little bit or organizing, cleaning, making a dessert, completing a puzzle, writing a letter, etc.
- If you are a bit lonely at home, go somewhere relaxing. Get a pedicure, a manicure, watch a movie with a friend, go to a cafe!
- Do something crazy... like dancing in the rain (with someone would be better). Sounds akward, but it can be fun and become a very special memory.
Just enjoy it! I am from Lima, Peru and we never have rain there! If we do, it's pitiful... tiny droplets like a subtle mist while the temperature feels cold and yucky. So when it rains here, I love it, even when I'm at my office. Today the front door (where my desk is) opened by itself due to the wind, and it scared me! It felt like a scene from What Lies Beneath. The only thing missing was a ghost. Luckily I did not scream.

... And to end this post... just like the song says: have you ever seen the rain coming down on a sunny day? :)

Magical Day Endings

Yesterday while I was driving back home I noticed the beautiful colors the sky had. I was thinking to myself: how come it's usually never this pretty when I drive on Wednesdays?... then I realized it was because I had left class 45 mins earlier. The sunset was so fascinating that I wish I had taken my camera with me. The colors, ranging from pink and orange to soft purples and blue, made everything look prettier including the highway and the lit store signs on the frontage road. I glanced to my right and noticed that that side of the city was already welcoming the night, while the left was still saying goodbye to the day. It looked as if the sky was divided in two sections and the highway I was on was right in the middle of them. Sunsets are one of those things that don't seem to be a big deal sometimes, but the colors are never the same, and the clouds always move differently too. These are little aspects that make you appreciate natural scenery even more. At one point, this man pulled behind me in his big truck with blinding white lights. I would have not cared too much except he was interrupting my sunset-contemplation! how dare he?! I let him pass me and continued driving, wondering how amazing it would be if all the city & car lights would go off at that moment. The sky would probably come close to being as beautiful as an aurora borealis. One of these afternoons go out and try to enjoy the sunset; don't just look at it a few seconds. It's also magical when you can see the horizon and watch as the very last bit of sun seeps under it.

10 Fun Things To Say To Telemarketers!

It's cool when you have take something that frustrates you and make it fun!
Who hasn't been bothered at least once by telemarketers? Whether they call us at home or at the office, they don't seem to understand our need for privacy/time/concentration/...
Let's see what we can do in order to avoid feeling annoyed next time one of them calls. Why not have a little fun, right? You will probably end up smiling instead of losing patience. Here are some of the funnest tips I found:

1) If you have a small child, say to the telemarketer: "Speak to the man/lady of the house." Hand the phone to him/her and let the fun begin :)

2) If they try to sell you something, try to sell them something as well. Interrupt them by saying: How about I offer you this product? Would you like to buy (...)? You got the idea.

3) Act as if you are an answering machine. Say: "Hello." (Wait on them to start talking.) "I'm sorry we can't come to the phone right now. Please leave a message. Beep."

4) You can answer by saying the name of a random company. For example, an insurance company. You can then ask questions like, "What if something happened to you?" or "Are you sure your final needs can be met?" They will probably hang up.

5) Answer the phone in a pretend foreign language.

6) A not-so-subtle one: "I'd love to hear more about why you are calling me, but I'm in the middle of dinner right now. Why don't you give me your home number so I can call and irritate you in the middle of your meal?" Or claim that you need some time to think, and that you'll get back to them.

7) Act as if you thought you won something. Talk continuously without letting them, and ask them things like when and how your prize will be sent.

8) Say: "Sorry to interrupt you. I really want to talk to you, but can you hold on for a few minutes? I just need to finish up the call from the last telemarketer. He called me about an hour ago." Or, put them on hold forever :P

9) Tell them you charge for listening. "Before I listen to your pitch, there are a few things we need to cover. My minimum rate for listening is $35 an hour. I have a deluxe package for $55 per hour that offers a 2 percent chance of purchase of what you're selling. (...and so on)

10) Say, "This phone line is for emergency use only. Do you have an emergency?" If they so no, then you can tell them goodbye; if they say say you can ask them about the emergency and insist it isn't one.

Try not to be mean, guys. This is just for fun! Don't get frustrated over a person you don't even know :P Turn the situation around and have some fun!

Enjoy talking to a telemarketer!
